~ a growing and changing community
WOW!.Yippee! Hurrah!. This was the first time RSCA held a Tree for Me event in partnership with Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation.Lead by new resident to the neighbourhood, Elissa Riddell it was about 3 months in the planning with lots of emails, phone calls and footwork.Rain or shine, the giving away of 150 trees was a happy success. Mother Nature was on our side and the sun came out along with lots of smiling faces.
We aimed for 150 trees in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday and the #EveryTreeCounts social media campaign this year and we ended up giving away just shy of 200 along with bags of mulch.(Service Berry (shrub), White Cedar (shrub), Red Maple,Eastern White Pine,Sugar Maple and Red Oak) -Service Berry and White Cedar being the most popular. There were also extra trees on hand for walk ups.The great thing about this event is that worshop leaders from Tree for Me did demonstrations on how to dig, plant, water and take care of your tree. Very informative and educational.
This event would not have been possible without All the volunteers! Elissa’s husband, mother, father, brothers and little sister. Big Thanks also go to Katya,Erin,Tanya and the crew from Tree for Me.
This is what community spirit looks like when people come together!
The event was the biggest one yet for Tree for Me/Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation and we look forward to doing it again next year!
